Helen M. Stock received a B.A. in Political Science and English from Boston College. Helen subsequently did considerable study in business at the Harvard University Extension School. An avid gardener, Helen Stock served as president of the Country Garden Club of Weston, Massachusetts during the 50th Anniversary year of the Club's founding. Helen represented the Club as a designer/arranger for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston "Art In Bloom" in 2005, 2010 and 2011. An outstanding swimmer, Helen was recognized as the "Student Athlete" in her graduating class at St. Mary's High School and was a four year varsity swimmer at Boston College, where she also was a member of the varsity sailing team. With a gentle temperament and brilliant intellect, Helen is easy to speak with and greatly helps clients to feel comfortable in the process of learning about antique rugs and carpets.
Douglas B. Stock received a B.A. in Philosophy from Gordon College. Douglas subsequently held a Phillip Francis DuPont Fellowship in the graduate Philosophy department at the University of Virginia. Douglas Stock was a long time member of the board of directors of the Art and Antique Dealers League of America, and also served on the board of The Antiques Dealers Association of America. Douglas is a long time member of the Antique Carpets Vetting Committee at The Winter Antiques Show in New York. A four sport high school athlete, Douglas played varsity hockey at Gordon College after graduating from Lexington Christian Academy.
Douglas and Helen Stock have operated D. B. Stock Antique Carpets, considered to be one of America's leading antique Oriental rug galleries, in the Boston, Massachusetts area since 1985. Early on, Helen and Douglas had a small antique Oriental rug gallery on Newbury St. in Boston. D.B. Stock Antique Carpets then operated as an open to the public gallery in Wellesley, Massachusetts for 23 years. Douglas and Helen Stock now work on a by appointment basis with Oriental rug clients in the New England to Florida corridor, including a substantial number of antique rug clients in New York, Washington, D.C., Connecticut and New Jersey. D.B. Stock Antique Carpets also focuses on Oriental rug sales via our website, DBSTOCK.COM, as well as exhibiting at select antiques shows. In addition to being a primary resource for antique rug clients in the Boston and New England area, D. B. Stock Antique Carpets draws an antique Oriental rug clientele from across The United States, with clients from more than two dozen different states having purchased rugs from us in the last quarter-of-a-century. D.B. Stock currently operates two gallery locations on a by appointment basis: our primary gallery in historic South Natick, Massachusetts, located fifteen miles west of Boston; and our satellite gallery in the western, Massachusetts town of Northampton, located two hours from Boston and three hours from New York City.
Helen and Douglas Stock have written numerous articles regarding antique Oriental rugs that have been published in antiques related magazines and papers. D.B. Stock Antique Carpets' advertisements have appeared many times in international publications such as HALI magazine, The Magazine Antiques, and Antiques & Fine Art magazine. A segment featuring antique Oriental rugs that appeared in January of 2010 on the New England Cable News (NECN) program "New England Dream House" was filmed at D.B. Stock Antique Carpets; and Douglas had about eight seconds of his fifteen minutes of fame by appearing many years ago on the popular Boston television program Chronicle. Antique rugs and carpets purchased from D.B. Stock have appeared in homes featured in Renovation Style magazine, New England Home magazine and the television program "This Old House".
D.B. Stock Antique Carpets has exhibited at many of the premier antiques shows in The United States, at the International Conference on Oriental Carpets in Washington D.C. and at The American Conference on Oriental Rugs in Boston, Massachusetts. Helen and Douglas Stock have spoken three times at The Textile Museum in Washington D.C.. Douglas has spoken at the Cleveland Rug Society.
Since 1991, D.B. Stock has been a member of the prestigious Art and Antique Dealers League of America, a consortium of 96 of North America's foremost antiques specialists. D.B. Stock Antique Carpets is also a member of the International Confederation of Dealers in Works of Art (CINOA).
