D.B. Stock Antique Carpets is a nationally regarded gallery based in Wellesley, Massachusetts, 12 miles west of Boston. The gallery is one of America's foremost specialists in antique central Persian Keshan rugs of the type often attributed to the Mohtashem family workshop. Mohtashem Keshan (sometimes spelled Mohtasham Kashan) rugs represent the high point of late 19th century Persian rug weaving. The early examples (circa 1875 - 1890) are characterized by a fine, pliable handle and somewhat rectilinear articulation of the floral forms. The later weavings (circa 1890 - 1910) become thicker and heavier, with a more curvilinear style. The later examples sometimes utilize a synthetic red. We primarily handle world class examples in this category.
