This exceptional small Keshan, part of an outstanding collection for several decades, is the only so-called
"Mohtashem" Keshan we have ever seen in person in this approximately 3 foot by 5 foot size. Rugs of the "Mohtashem"
variety seem to have been woven in "mat" (approximately 2' x 3') and "Dozar" (approximately 4'6" x 6'9") sizes, as well
as roomsize carpets. For whatever reason, they appeared to very rarely weave so called Zaronim" (approximately 3' x 5') size rugs.
In addition to the rare size, the aesthetics of this example are outstanding, with a small, but elaborate, navy blue medallion on an ivory
field, framed by sky blue corner spandrels and a navy ground, flowerhead design border."
Circa 1890.
